XAU/USD stalls at 4308 as daily downtrend holds pressure

Gold's intraday recovery looks impressive on the surface, but the daily trend argues it is noise inside a broader downward structure.

Spot XAU/USD is up 1.2% on the session after sweeping a low of 4254.55, recovering to print a high of 4329.93 before settling back near 4308. No macro catalyst has driven the move; the tape reads as short-cover flow against a technically oversold intraday position rather than a genuine demand shift. Prior sessions already saw levels at 4354.02 and 4366.23 broken and then reclaimed to the downside, a pattern that continues to define this market's character.

The structural picture remains unfavorable for bulls. Price trades well below EMA200 at 4485.44, which has capped every meaningful rally attempt. EMA20 at 4301.70 and EMA50 at 4302.64 are bunched just below current price, offering a thin support cluster rather than conviction. Trend alignment is mixed across timeframes, RSI sits in neutral territory, and volatility remains elevated — conditions that favour selling strength rather than chasing the intraday bid. The prior bearish bias is unchanged, and without a confirming catalyst the momentum case for longs is thin.

We lean short and look to sell into the 4329–4354 supply zone. A daily close above 4354.02 invalidates the setup and forces reassessment; below 4268.37 the next structural floor at 4023.73 opens.
