XAU/USD slides toward 3959 as downtrend alignment holds
Gold is grinding lower inside a well-defined downtrend and every short-term bounce is being sold into, keeping momentum firmly in the bear camp.
Spot bullion trades near 4008 after printing a session high of 4036.52 that attracted fresh supply before fading back toward the lower end of the 3983.02 to 4036.52 daily range. The weekly tape is even more telling, with price off over three percent from last week's levels. The string of broken levels over the prior seven days — including 4246.54, 4220.52 and 4136.22 — underscores the regime: this is not a consolidation, it is a downtrend in progress.
The setup reads cleanly from a momentum standpoint. Price trades below EMA20 at 4055.42, EMA50 at 4136.22 and EMA200 at 4384.58, with the full EMA stack inverted and none of the shorter averages showing signs of flattening. Trend is aligned lower across all three timeframes, RSI is drifting toward oversold without yet reaching an extreme, and volatility is elevated, which historically extends trending moves rather than stopping them. The analytics signal carries high confidence in the bearish direction over the next 48 hours.
We lean short and sell any rally into the 4036 to 4055 zone, targeting 3959.21 support. A daily close back above EMA20 at 4055.42 invalidates the call and forces a reassessment.
