XAU/USD fades at 4194 as bearish trend stack holds
Gold is grinding a counter-trend bounce inside a tape that is still structurally offered, and the bounce looks like an opportunity rather than a trend change.
Bullion is up 1.14% on the session, printing a range of 4136.61 to 4220.65, but that intraday high has already rolled over and price is drifting back toward mid-range near 4194. No fundamental catalyst has driven the move; the session looks like a technical relief rally after a week that stripped 2.8% off the metal and broke through a sequence of prior supports in succession.
The structural read stays bearish. Price is trading below EMA20 at 4213.43 and well clear of EMA50 at 4256.75, with both acting as a descending supply shelf. Trend is aligned lower across the 4H and daily timeframes, with the 1H only turning neutral on the bounce, not confirming a reversal. RSI sits in the lower half of its range, consistent with a market under distribution rather than accumulation, and volatility is elevated, keeping ATR wide enough that overshoots into resistance are plausible. From a trend-following perspective, the dominant flow remains southward and the correct posture is to sell into strength.
We look to sell rallies into the 4213–4246 entry zone. A daily close above EMA50 at 4256.75 invalidates the setup and forces reassessment.
