XAU/USD fades 4315 high as trend stack stays aligned down
Gold posted a wide intraday range but the tape told a clear story: the rally was sold, not bought.
XAU/USD traded up 1.2% on the session, printing a high of 4315.29 before reversing sharply back toward the 4254.55 low. There is no headline catalyst driving the move; the price action itself is the signal. The session range of roughly 61 points speaks to elevated volatility, and the failure to sustain gains confirms supply remains overhead.
From a trend-following perspective, the setup is clean. Price is pressing the EMA20 at 4299.79 and EMA50 at 4301.92, two levels that have converged into a natural resistance shelf. Trend is aligned down across the 1H, 4H and 1D frames, RSI sits neutral rather than oversold, which means there is no technical imperative for a bounce. Volatility is elevated, which tends to favour continuation rather than reversal when the trend stack is this cohesive. Prior resistance at 4354.02, broken during the recent selloff, now acts as overhead supply. The 4268.37 support is the next structural reference below current price, and 4023.73 marks the bigger-picture demand zone.
We lean short and sell any intraday lift into the 4299 to 4315 zone. A daily close above 4354.02 invalidates the call and forces reassessment.
