XAU/USD fades 4202 as downtrend holds all timeframes
Gold's intraday bounce looks like a gift to sellers, not a trend reversal — the structural damage from the past week is too extensive to dismiss on a single-session uptick.
Bullion recovered 1.35% off the session low of 4136.61, touching a high of 4202.57, but remains underwater on the week by over 2.6%. No fresh macro catalyst is driving the move; price is consolidating after a sustained liquidation that snapped through resistance at 4246.54 and 4354.02 in quick succession over the prior seven sessions.
The tape continues to argue for the short side. Price sits below EMA20 at 4217.84 and EMA50 at 4260.23, with EMA200 at 4462.88 a distant ceiling confirming the depth of the retracement. Trend is aligned down across the 1H, 4H and 1D timeframes — a full stack confirmation that momentum-driven desks cannot ignore. RSI is approaching oversold territory but has not yet triggered a reversal signal, and volatility is elevated, which tends to extend rather than arrest trending moves. The nearest support sits at 4121.74, and below that 4023.73 re-enters scope as the next structural level.
We look to sell into the 4217–4246 supply zone where EMA20 and prior broken support converge. A daily close above EMA50 at 4260.23 invalidates the bearish structure and forces a reassessment.
