XAU/USD extends decline below 4018 as trend stack stays down
Gold is in full distribution mode, and the tape has not offered a single credible reason to fade the sell-side momentum this week.
Spot XAU/USD is off 0.32% on the session and trades inside a 3978.53 to 4018.72 range, extending a weekly decline that has now stripped nearly 4.7% from price. No single macro headline is driving today's move — this is trend continuation, with a succession of prior supports at 4220.52 and 4246.54 surrendered in recent sessions, and price now accelerating into open air below those levels.
The structural case for selling bounces is unambiguous from a momentum lens. Price sits well beneath EMA20 at 4102.77, EMA50 at 4177.75 and EMA200 at 4409.46, with the entire EMA stack inverted and pointing lower. Trend is aligned down across every timeframe, RSI is deeply depressed without yet signalling a durable floor, and volatility is elevated — a combination that historically sustains directional moves rather than reversing them. The nearest resistance cluster at 4220.52 and 4246.54 is far removed from current price, serving as a ceiling rather than a near-term target. The session range floor at 3978.53 is the immediate pivot to defend.
We stay short and sell any intraday bounce into the 3991 to 4018.72 zone. A daily close above EMA20 at 4102.77 invalidates the bearish thesis and forces a full reassessment.
