Nikkei holds 71022 as weekly momentum keeps bulls in control

Nikkei is digesting a sharp intraday retreat, but the week-long momentum structure argues the bulls are simply pausing to reload rather than reversing.

The index shed 1.1% on the session, trading inside a wide 70693.5 to 72205.5 range that reflects elevated volatility without any single macro catalyst driving the move. No headline news is flowing, which means the pullback reads as a natural unwinding of short-term overbought pressure following last week's 5.6% advance.

The setup remains constructive for a trend-following desk. Price holds above EMA20 at 70373.95 and EMA50 at 68666.37, with EMA200 well below at 64881.38, confirming a clean bull stack across all meaningful timeframes. The 4H and 1D trends both point upward, with only the 1H reading neutral, consistent with normal intraday consolidation. RSI sits in neutral territory, leaving meaningful room for the next leg before momentum gets stretched. Volatility is elevated, which means stops are wider, but the trend-aligned framework argues for holding exposure rather than fading a pullback this shallow. Key support levels at 68747 and 66026 remain well below price, and none have been tested — the structure shows no distribution.

We lean long and look to add on dips into the 70373 to 70693 zone where EMA20 and the session low converge. A daily close below EMA50 at 68666 invalidates the call and signals a more meaningful structural shift.
