NIKKEI drops to 69129 as mixed trend signals demand caution

The Nikkei is in the middle of a sharp trend failure, and a momentum desk needs confirmation before committing either way.

The index has dropped 2.85% on the day and carved a 68661.5 to 71604.5 intraday range — a span that speaks to the volatility regime currently in play. There is no single macro catalyst on the tape; the move appears positioning-driven, with prior support levels at 68747 and 70687 crumbling in quick succession over the past week.

The structural picture is fractured. Price sits below EMA20 at 70714.04 and EMA50 at 70190.09, yet EMA200 at 66158.02 remains well below current levels, preserving the longer-dated uptrend. Trend alignment is mixed: the daily trend remains up while shorter timeframes have turned lower, and RSI is drifting toward oversold territory without yet signalling exhaustion. Volatility is extreme, which on a trend-following framework is a warning to reduce size, not add. The series of broken levels from prior sessions — 68747 and 70687 — tells a story of supply overcoming demand on each rally attempt.

We hold here and wait for resolution. A sustained bid back above 70190 reopens the long case and aligns the trend stack; a break below 68440 shifts the playbook bearish and targets 68168. Entry on either side requires confirmation, not anticipation.
